In September 2016, the end of summer brought me to the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This region was totally unknown to me. The beautiful photos I have stumbled upon throughout the past months have made me decide to stop waiting any longer and plan the trip.
A detailed report will follow in due time. To still hour hunger, I will already give you an idea of the itinerary and what I have seen along the way.
The main photo-goals of the trip were:
- the Elbe valley between Dresden, Ústí Nad Labem and beyond
- the non-electrified lines around Horná Štubňa, for some freight trains and locomotive-hauled passenger trains
- Štrba, on the Žilina – Košice main line, where you can make photos with the magnificent High Tatra mountain chain in the background
Below you will see one photo from each day of the trip.
Day 1. Driving to Dresden. Photos of the Euronight services that are about to disappear

Day 2. Elbe valley between Dresden and Ústí Nad Labem

Day 3. Elbe valley south of Ústí Nad Labem

Day 4. Around Česká Třebová, on the main line between Prague and Ostrava

Day 5. Traffic around Horná Štubňa

Day 6. Štrba, under the High Tatra mountain range

Day 7. Returing home – Elbe valley second chance

Day 8. From Leipzig back home

Daar kijk ik naar uit zeg!
