And to end the day
Would the last hour of a very relaxing and well-filled day be as good as the rest of the day? Judge for yourself, I quite like this photo of a RegioJet towards Kosice. Continue reading And to end the day

The festivities weren’t over yet. A short walk led a bit closer to the tracks, with still another view on the magnificent background. Can’t get enough of it. Continue reading Closer, but still scenic
This is what I had been hoping for. One magnificent view followed by another, and so on, and so on. I was having a good time at Strba. Waiting for a couple of trains and then moving on to the next stunning view, this being one of the best of the vacation. Continue reading Showing in full glory
The High Tatra mountains are hiding behind… equally High clouds. Tough luck, but train traffic was overcompensating. Below a selection of what I saw. Regiojet was expected, PKP Cargo wasn’t. This line was definitely rocking it, making the far trip here all the more worthwhile. Continue reading Hiding behind the clouds
A chilly autumn morning, one of the first ones of 2016. Through the fog I reached this spot, only guessing it’s the spot I had in mind. One opening at the right time was sufficient to reveal a splendid view on the High Tatra mountain chain. Traffic seemed to be rather dense, and interesting: a passenger pulled train each way per hour, followed by one … Continue reading Sticking my head through the fog
A dog is watching curiously at 3 men holding cameras, not knowing they are actually pointing at the train instead of his furry highness. Continue reading Dog watching
Rather early in the day it was done with scheduled loco-hauled passenger trains around Horna Stubna. This was the opportunity to travel north a bit, led by my photo companions of the day, to explore a bit of the busy mainline between Zilina and Presov. They showed me the area around Svosov, where an old station building is still standing. The cross on the right … Continue reading Exploring new territories
The cement train was a deception, but there was still time to make up for it with a nice photo of a passenger train. My local guides lead the way, and in no time we could set up our gear in a field in Turcianske Teplice, in time for a train coming from Banska Bystrica. The line from Banska Bystrica looks impressive, judging by the … Continue reading Passenger in the woods
This is the shot I wanted to make in Slovakia. It all was perfect, until… As happens so often, the sun disappeared behind the clouds right when the train is there. It was a matter of seconds before it would be back, but of course the train wouldn’t wait. 6 disappointed photographers… however, I am glad I made the photo. I’ll have to return another … Continue reading A reason to come, and to return
Back to Horna Stubna, to check what action can be expected next. THere was not much asking involved, as we saw this train running into the station. This is the train I came to Slovakia for: cement train 55721 from Lietavská Lúčka to Zemianske Kostoľany, pulled by 3 Bardotka engines. Some people see a similarity between the locomotive’s nose and Brigitte Bardot, hence the nickname. Continue reading Meeting up with Brigitte Bardot
