The location at Usti nad Labem Strekov also looks good in the other direction, albeit not as spectacular Continue reading Turning around at the waterfront

Saturday September 24th, last day of my Czech and Slovak adventure. I went back to the place where the adventure in Czech republic began a couple of days ago. High on the wishlist was this location in Usti nad Labem, featuring Strekov castle and the Elbe river. Traffic was rather dense, a selection below. Continue reading Every beginning has an end
I temporarily ended my journey along the Elbe river at Dolni Berkovice. The railway line runs along the river here, as does a bike lane on the other bank. This makes for comfortable waiting. Add to this that freight trains were numerous, and I could call the evening a success. Continue reading End of the day on the river bank
Waiting for some cargo trains, I photographed this desiro unit on it’s way to Antwerp, reflected in a puddle. No photo of a cargo train here, since I didn’t get a good enough photo of one. Continue reading Sometimes the intended reason doesn’t work out
With the tower of the Riddarholmskyrkan in the background, a C20 type subway train of Storstockholms Lokaltrafik, the company responible for managing Stockholm’s subway system; is headed towards the city’s main train station. Continue reading Urban Stockholm
You can’t always have drinks on a terrace in between visits when it’s sunny, right? Not always, indeed, so I found myself next to the tracks for a little while, while my girlfriend was chilling out along the water. South of Stockholm’s train station is a bridge over the water, right before the tracks dive into a tunnel. I didn’t stay that long, really, but … Continue reading Some variation in the breaks
The opening of the TGV-Est, planned for december 2016, would meant the end of the Eurocity trains between Brussels and Basel. Following all logic of French railways, passengers from Brussels to Switzerland have to use the TGV and pass through Paris… We love these classic trains, allowing cheap and relatively fast travel. That’s one of the reasons we were chasing them in the Vosges on … Continue reading Along the Marne – Rhine canal
In Arzviller you get to see something unusal. The railway line and the canal run right next to each other, and dive under the mountain together, each in their own separate tunnel. I found it a good spot to wait for the first Eurocity to Brussels of that day. Watching the boats go by, and hoping that one would pass at the right time… no … Continue reading Along the canal in Arzviller
The flatness of the Great Salt Lake was as spectacular as the roughness of the landscape we visited only hours before. Between Lakeside and Little Mountain, the railroad runs through the Great Salt Lake. We needed patience to see a train here: we didn’t get a train coming from Salt Lake City, so the picture shows 2 engines that help push a container train over … Continue reading Water everywhere
Whoops, I forgot to show a photo of the Grand Canyon. Ah well… google will show you enough of those. The day after visiting the Canyon, we visited the Horseshoe Curve on the Colorado River close to Page. I was impressed. It’s a much smaller scale, but that makes it 10 times more beautiful in my opinion. Continue reading Close to the edge
