Chilly local
On a cold winter morning, before the sun rises above the horizon, a local train is about to pass under the E17 highway. Getting here with the mountainbike through the fresh snow was a lot of fun. Continue reading Chilly local
New trains on old crossings
On Sunday, right before starting the long way home, I spent some time in Güterglück. I was hoping that the name of the town suggested something about the train traffic. I also wanted to make a photo of the old railway crossing. No freight train, but a modern Talent train fit well. Continue reading New trains on old crossings
Closer, but still scenic
The festivities weren’t over yet. A short walk led a bit closer to the tracks, with still another view on the magnificent background. Can’t get enough of it. Continue reading Closer, but still scenic
Hiding behind the clouds
The High Tatra mountains are hiding behind… equally High clouds. Tough luck, but train traffic was overcompensating. Below a selection of what I saw. Regiojet was expected, PKP Cargo wasn’t. This line was definitely rocking it, making the far trip here all the more worthwhile. Continue reading Hiding behind the clouds
Meeting up with Brigitte Bardot
Back to Horna Stubna, to check what action can be expected next. THere was not much asking involved, as we saw this train running into the station. This is the train I came to Slovakia for: cement train 55721 from Lietavská Lúčka to Zemianske Kostoľany, pulled by 3 Bardotka engines. Some people see a similarity between the locomotive’s nose and Brigitte Bardot, hence the nickname. Continue reading Meeting up with Brigitte Bardot
More like it
What makes a photo location a good one? Among my criteria are a nice landscape as back- or foreground, no clutter like communication masts or fences, and “peace and quiet”. You don’t see the last criterium on the photo, but it makes the waiting nice. Add a little sunshine and some interesting trains, and I may be tempted to stick around for a while… even … Continue reading More like it
Rural Regionova
The local line from Zalhostice, along the Elbe, to Ceska Lipa is…, well, rural. It is a nice contrast to the relatively busy valley, and I wanted to make some photos on these small lines. I was hoping to get some locomotive hauled trains, but got this modernised Regionova vehicle in front of the lens. Ah well, it fits nicely between the bushes this way. Continue reading Rural Regionova
An unexpected goodbye
A little time spent along the tracks at De Pinte resulted in this photo of a grain train hauled by a BB36000 locomotive. I didn’t know this would be my last photo of this kind of engine in Belgium, but until now they haven’t reappeared on Belgian tracks. Who knows what the future will bring… I definitely appreciated seeing these cousins of the SNCB/CFL 13/3000 … Continue reading An unexpected goodbye
Many generations
A typical railway scene consisting of lots of different time elements: a 70’s TGV PSE trainset, in a very recent livery, all under the monumental 1864 station hall. The TGV trainset is one of the oldest ones still running around – but for how long will it last? On the way back from Nice, while waiting for the final leg of the trip to Lille … Continue reading Many generations
