Back to Horna Stubna, to check what action can be expected next. THere was not much asking involved, as we saw this train running into the station. This is the train I came to Slovakia for: cement train 55721 from Lietavská Lúčka to Zemianske Kostoľany, pulled by 3 Bardotka engines. Some people see a similarity between the locomotive’s nose and Brigitte Bardot, hence the nickname. Continue reading Meeting up with Brigitte Bardot
On day 2 of the trip I followed the railway Line from Dresden to Usti Nad Labem, that follows the Elbe river. I’ll stay polite and not describe the weather… let’s see it as an opportunity to be able to shoot in 2 directions. I found a good shelter at the station of Obervogelgesang, only coming out to make a photo. I’ve alwyas been a … Continue reading No birds singing
At the end of our vitamin-D cure at the French riviera, we took the train back home: night train from Nice to Paris, a TGV from Paris to Lille and a car ride for the final leg home. Right before departure out of Nice, I took these photos of our train ready to drive off into the setting sun. The night was not as refreshing … Continue reading Snorring to Paris
We had a really good time in Copenhagen for the few days we spent there. Visiting the city by bicycle and on foot was perfect for relaxing, getting rid of the stress. We were also overdosed on vitamin D in the meantime, that felt really good. Let’s hope it would get as good in Stockholm. We made the trip between the two cities by train. … Continue reading A very enjoyable trip
During a 1 week vacation, my girlfriend and I made a double citytrip to Copenhagen and Stockholm. These 2 cities are perfect to combine in a week, if you ignore the fact that travelling in Scandinavia really is more expensive than what we are used to. And even more so when the weather is nice: we spent more time than expected sitting on terraces, with … Continue reading About durable transport
Above the town of Kaub rises burg Gutenfels, the 3rd castle I would photograph today. It was also used together with a tower in the river for toll purposes. Being the captain of a boat back in the days must have been fun: stopping in every town to pay toll. Sounds a bit like the French highway system 😉 Sun wasn’t cooperating, but this blue … Continue reading Burg Gutenfels
While the local shunter is still sorting the cars, the return train is already being composed. It all happens with relatively few people, and it goes fast. I wonder if this is a profitable business, considering the number of cars the freight trains carry. Continue reading Ready, set, …
This train used to be my daily commute to work. Until it was replaced by Fyra trainsets and then rerouted over Brussels Airport. Since then, regular IC trains were the fastest option. That gave me the opportunity, though, to capture it on photo while waiting for my train. If I arrived at the station early, that is, which didn’t happen all that often. I was … Continue reading Missed the train!
During the last years, the European quarter has been the subject of an aesthetic and functional makeover. The functional change in railway land was the construction of the Schuman – Josaphat rail link and the upgrade of Brussels-Schuman station into a multimodal hub. The functional upgrade was used to give the station an aesthetic makeover, making it more attractive to rail and subway passengers. It’s … Continue reading Connecting Europe
