Connecting Europe

During the last years, the European quarter has been the subject of an aesthetic and functional makeover. The functional change in railway land was the construction of the Schuman – Josaphat rail link and the upgrade of Brussels-Schuman station into a multimodal hub. The functional upgrade was used to give the station an aesthetic makeover, making it more attractive to rail and subway passengers. It’s a big improvement!
The Eurocity to Luxemburg and Basel stops here at one of the renewed platforms. In the background we can see the recently renovated Residence Palace. The Eurocity trains used to be a symbol for the connectivity between European cities – today none of these trains stop at the heart of Europe anymore. The European politicians working in Brussels, however, can now use the new Schuman – Josapat rail link to get to their plane at Brussels Airport. At least there’s still some train in the picture…
