Animal feed

The railway line running along lake Erie seems busy. I convinced my girlfriend for a short break along the tracks, and immediately saw headlights in the distance. A few seconds later a long doublestack container train rumbled over the 7-track railway crossing. In the background a Nestlé Purina plant, with the old Ralston Purina logo. Continue reading Animal feed

Sudden action

A short stop on the way back to Toronto was almost unsuccessfull, until all of a sudden 2 trains came from opposite directions. Lucky enough, the westbound was empty and as such not hiding the eastbound. Continue reading Sudden action

Galloping to New York

After a night at a hotel in Strasburg, I got up early to catch a morning train to New York. It was all silent: no sound of cars, only of hoofs of the Amish’ horses. Very relaxing in the warm morning light. Continue reading Galloping to New York

Resting orange

Some bright orange between trees and barns was all I needed to steer the car to a side road. GP40-2 number 2007, in Genesse & Wyoming scheme but running for Québec Gatineau Railway is waiting for its next duty. Continue reading Resting orange

Under the tower

The start of our yearly holiday in 2016 was Toronto. It would become a roundtrip via the Niagara Falls, Ottawa, Mintreal, Québec, Maine, New Hampshire, Boston, Washington, Virgina and Pennsylvania. In Toronto we paused for a couple of minutes under the CN tower to check out a couple of trains. Continue reading Under the tower

Life is good

We ended the day along the water in Visé. First a couple of trains, then a beer on the waterfront with friends. Continue reading Life is good

The start of a busy week

After the short visit to the Liège – Luxemburg line, we headed towards line 24 for some freight trains from Germany. On Sundays, after 3pm, a whole bunch of trains that had been waiting in Germany head into Belgium. Continue reading The start of a busy week

Matching colours

This train’s colours do look good between the autumn leaves, looks like it was always foreseen to be this way. The view would be gone quickly, followed by another 2 hours of silence in the quiet Amblève valley. Continue reading Matching colours

Grass is green, trees are orange

On a beautiful sunny Sunday a passenger train heads south, linking Liège to Luxembourg via the magnificent valley of the Amblève river. The cows remain highly uninterested, the green grass must be way too good – and the last they will get for a couple of months. Continue reading Grass is green, trees are orange

Fluorescent power

The weather in Rathen was better going than coming. Saturday afternoon brought some more freight trains as well. Continue reading Fluorescent power
