Reminiscent of the long days (VI)

Summer is, yet again, over. Short days of fall and winter make us long for those long days again. On Saturday June 14, after a short and arm night, I got up early to enjoy the first light of the day. First train of the day was Rurtalbahn Cargo with one of their Euro 9000 locomotives. At 6:44, the sun was already lighting the town for … Continue reading Reminiscent of the long days (VI)

Reminiscent of the long days (V)

Summer is, yet again, over. Short days of fall and winter make us long for those long days again. On Friday June 13, after making the photo in Visé, I finally made it to my overnight address in Sint-Martens-Voeren. After the long drive, I was happy to sit down on the terrace in the warm summer heat and watch the trains go by. At 22:12, while … Continue reading Reminiscent of the long days (V)

Hexafret train from Achiet to Somain

Maintained cars

Almost 2,5 hours after 60023 brought some cars for maintenance to Achiet, I captured it with some freshly maintained cars. After capturing the Lineas grain train to Tergnier, I looked for still another spot, as I expected the train from Achiet to be rather short. This new location gives a better view on the town of Feuchy, with the Roman-style Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil church towering above. Continue reading Maintained cars

A reason to come, and to return

This is the shot I wanted to make in Slovakia. It all was perfect, until… As happens so often, the sun disappeared behind the clouds right when the train is there. It was a matter of seconds before it would be back, but of course the train wouldn’t wait. 6 disappointed photographers… however, I am glad I made the photo. I’ll have to return another … Continue reading A reason to come, and to return

Wish I had a bicycle

One recommendation when visiting the Elbe valley: try to avoid using a car. Roads that aren’t accessible and few parking spots give the car driver a hard time. And spots like this one are easily missed. It has been on my wishlist for a while, and I knew approximately where I needed to be… but had some difficulty locating it exactly. WIth a bicycle I … Continue reading Wish I had a bicycle

Platform shot

The camera and politician on the previous spot made me uncomfortable enough to move away quickly. I went to the station of Lorchhausen, mainly because I didn’t have immediate inspiration on where to go next, but also because there are shelters for the rain: there was a serious shower coming up. Right before and after the rain, the sun was giving all of its warm … Continue reading Platform shot

Proportions set straight

A bit of looking around usually does the trick. Shot from almost the same location, with a tele instead of a wide angle lens, this view is something quite different compared to the previous photo. I prefer this one, by far: it reduces the train more to it’s real size compared to the giant mountain in the background. Look closely and you’ll see that the … Continue reading Proportions set straight
