Crawling up the hill

It took me 3 times to get this photo right. 3 days in a row, and on the first day of 2016, after sleeping off new year’s eve and before heading to more booze at family visits, everything fell into place. Probably not because of my night before, but rather thanks to trains being perfectly on schedule: around the same time as the benelux train … Continue reading Crawling up the hill

Empty beltway

This is a rare image: little traffic on Antwerp’s beltway, on a weekend. It was the second to last day of the year, that may explain… Since an agreement was reached about the Oosterweel project, this photo may not be possible anymore in a couple of years. Part of the project includes covering of this road and I’m curious what this site will look like … Continue reading Empty beltway

Some variation

White versus green. A color difference. That was all the motivation I needed to get outside on a cold, but sunny, saturday afernoon. I was hoping to catch a Benelux service hauled by one of the white Railpool locomotives instead of a green Alpha Trains one. Variation is good. Green was the color for the train to Amsterdam… … but the train to Brussels was … Continue reading Some variation

Europorte @ Euroports

Trains also rest sometimes. Not too long, of course, who wants an expensive pile of metal just standing there… So consider us lucky to catch this Europorte locomotive resting right where we just witnessed the delivery of some freight cars, and even more lucky that it did so close to the sign of the owner of the site, Euroports. Continue reading Europorte @ Euroports

A gap in the fence

Final destination. The cars are delivered at the client’s, to be loaded or unloaded. There were only a few gaps in the concrete fencing, we had to grab the opportunity to shoot the train when it presented itself. Continue reading A gap in the fence

Working hard

At night it’s quiet in the port of Antwerp. Almost no trucks, no cars… but if you look well, you can find some trains. During one of the longest nights of the year, we found one at the small Lillo marshalling yard. The B-Logistics’ crew was working hard to deliver the goods on time at a client’s site. We had to hurry to get our … Continue reading Working hard

Missed the train!

This train used to be my daily commute to work. Until it was replaced by Fyra trainsets and then rerouted over Brussels Airport. Since then, regular IC trains were the fastest option. That gave me the opportunity, though, to capture it on photo while waiting for my train. If I arrived at the station early, that is, which didn’t happen all that often. I was … Continue reading Missed the train!

Dark perspectives

This is probably the last photo I made of these magnificent French diesel locomotives in commercial service. As the pack of clouds was getting thcker and thicker, and the sun was starting to set, I kept on going for that one final shot. On the bridge over the railway at Maison-Rouge I enjoyed for the last time the thundering sound at high speed of a … Continue reading Dark perspectives

A lost battle

It was getting darker and darker. The clouds had finally won the battle with the sun. Continue reading “A lost battle”

Standing strong

148 years, 6 months and 0 days. For that long trains have been passing over the viaduct of Besnard in Longueville. I absolutely wanted a photo of this magnificent structure. It took me a while to find a good location, but I was way on time  for the train from Paris. Continue reading Standing strong
