Cool morning

The first week of august was hot, incredibly hot, in the Alsace region. After a short night I decided that it was time to get up early and enjoy the cool morning temperatures along the tracks. Well, a little before 7am I was standing next to the tracks in only a t-shirt. At least temperature was still bearable.Of course I got to see some trains: … Continue reading Cool morning

Vegetable garden

This location was once known as the “vegetable garden spot”. Before the start of work on the third and fourth tracks, you could make nice pictures with a vegetable garden in front. Quite a few hours were spent there, with friends and alone.Today, catenary poles are placed such that the original spot doesn’t look so nice anymore. I had to look for an alternative. The … Continue reading Vegetable garden

Red

Photoshop or not? Contrary to what you may think, only timing and luck were needed to get the red tractor next to the identicaly colored DB engines. No idea if this location still exists, or if bicycle highway fences are blocking the view. Continue reading Red

Frozen warm

The sun is rising slowly above the frozen fields, that will slowly warm up and lose their white tint. A typical view on regional non electrified lines in Belgium since the early 2000’s, but wintery scenes like this are still very enjoyable. Continue reading Frozen warm

Chilly local

On a cold winter morning, before the sun rises above the horizon, a local train is about to pass under the E17 highway. Getting here with the mountainbike through the fresh snow was a lot of fun. Continue reading Chilly local

The start of a busy week

After the short visit to the Liège – Luxemburg line, we headed towards line 24 for some freight trains from Germany. On Sundays, after 3pm, a whole bunch of trains that had been waiting in Germany head into Belgium. Continue reading The start of a busy week

A busy Sunday

And yes, I was lucky in Güterglück. Of the multiple freight trains that I saw, I’ll show 2. Very surprising to me to see so many freight trains on a Sunday. I wonder if this is normal in the east of Germany. Continue reading A busy Sunday

Still more like it

Only a short walk from the previous location, you have a nice view on a modern bridge and a town in the background. Again, it was a good place to wait for a while, so below again a selection of what I saw. Continue reading Still more like it

Vintage Skoda

I couldn’t let this old Skoda 1203 just stand there… of course I only took it with me as pixels on a memory card. Travel to the east of Europe is interesting for people who are interested in cars: the further you go, the older the models get. Well, one photo of a car is enough. I’ll go for the trains. Like here, with a … Continue reading Vintage Skoda

Labem’s right bank

The Elbe also has a Czech name: Labem. On this photo, the train is running along the Labem river. Yes, I have finally arrived in the Czech republic. South of Decin, there are railway lines on both sides of the river. I had no idea where to see the trains, but I guessed cargo traffic woud run on the right bank of the river when … Continue reading Labem’s right bank
