Artificial sunshine

The Bertschi train from Sluiskil to Antwerp has become less visible again due to, well, no convergence between it’s timetable and the seasonal position of the sun. So I had to bring my own light to brighten up this chemical train. Talk about artificial. Continue reading Artificial sunshine

Afterwork south of Arras

A work day in France on June 6th was the perfect opportunity for me to stay a bit longer in this beautiful country. I wanted to go to Miraumont, of which I had seen many nice photos. The Miraumont spot was only good for 2 freights though, as I arrived a bit too late. I then set off to explore the region around Miraumont and … Continue reading Afterwork south of Arras

A final effort

A few hours later than previous photo. Fingers frozen, and getting tired. On the way back to the highway we came across a Captrain engine waiting to leave the Alaska section. This would have been a nice one to follow, but me and my friends lights were fading out so it was time to head back to our respective homes. Continue reading A final effort

Close to the action

Living in an apartment in Antwerp is great. Living in an apartment in Antwerp and close to one of the largest European railway ports is even better. The port is a great placce to explore by bicycle. It can be done in relative safety, and it gives you the time to discover the hidden tracks and yards. Thus seeing things that you might look over … Continue reading Close to the action

Feeling looked at

Not all people find sitting next to the water and waiting for a train a relaxing way of spending your time. Take for exaple the people on the right of the photo, wondering what the weird guy (me, in this case) is doing just waiting there. Never mind, I took my time looking for a viewpoint north of the Pont des Allemands, on the left bank of … Continue reading Feeling looked at

Enjoying an evening walk

The quest for some freight trains brought me a bit further south, in Alt-Hoeselt. I parked the car close to the, by insiders well-known, curve and started walking. I didn’t quite find what I was looking for, so this Crossrail train became a “panic” shot. On the photo you can judge the gradient, and thus understand why the loco is spitting out a lot of … Continue reading Enjoying an evening walk
