Above the town of Kaub rises burg Gutenfels, the 3rd castle I would photograph today. It was also used together with a tower in the river for toll purposes. Being the captain of a boat back in the days must have been fun: stopping in every town to pay toll. A very unusual view at the time it was made: a B-Logistics engine running along the Rhine valley. Today this has become more common as Lineas’ Green Xpress network has proven to be succesfull, with their network still growing. The castle of Flamboin dates from the sixteenth century. I got to see it from a distance from where I was standing, though I’m not sure the passengers got even a glimpse of it as the train to Paris raced through the station of Flamboin-Gouaix.
