Early clicking necessary

For the next photo, I wanted to make my version of some photos I had seen before. Location is Chalmaison, where a dog was doing his best to protect his master’s property… constantly barking at me. Note: I wasn’t trying to break into his master’s house, I was just standing on a public bridge. So, I’ve had more enjoyable times waiting for a train. To … Continue reading Early clicking necessary

Where time didn’t stand still

When visiting ligne 4, I use the timetable and train numbers to determine which trains are hauled by CC72000 engines. That has proven to be an accurate method, but doesn’t work all the time. The next 2 pictures are proof of this. I was expecting quite a different train… but the surroundings still make for a nice photo. Very few freight trains seem to be using this route, part of Union Pacific’s transcontinental Overland Route: we saw only one eastbound grain train. Fortunately, the California Zephyr heading to San Francisco was running on time. Right behind the locomotives, a dome car is part of the train. Unfortunately, I have no … Continue reading Time for a nap

California Zephyr (II)

After not seeing any freight trains the day before, we tried our luck again on the Thompson – Green River section. Landscape was looking too promising. First train that came through was the eastbound California Zephyr. Today it was hauled by a locomotive in phase I livery, commemorating Amtrak’s 40th anniversary in 2011. With this photo, I tried a new technique of developping the photos … Continue reading California Zephyr (II)

California Zephyr (I)

Still in the mood for visiting national parks, we spent the morning of May 31st visiting Arches national park in the south of Utah. Around noon, the desire for making photos was growing again though, and we drove up north to Green River. Waiting for a freight train turned out unsuccesful, but we were able to catch the California Zephyr. It left Chicago 14 hours … Continue reading California Zephyr (I)
