The Koper railway refers to the single track rail line connecting the port of Koper with Divača and leading further into Slovenia. It’s a very scenic line, curving its way down to sea level coming from 500+ meters. Within the railfan community it’s most well-known for the spectacular photo locations between Koper and Črnotiče. By the end of next year, one of two new tunnels will open. This will impact the way trains are operated, before closure of the complete line in a few years. This will significantly increase capacity of the line, which sees only limited passenger traffic due to the high amount of freight trains using the line.
The past few years I’ve visited the Koper railway a few times, covering many different locations. On this page I made a complete report of the locations visited, and there’s also a map showing the locations. Enjoy!
