I ended my day on the Tarvisio – Udine line with a delicious hamburger in Cavalicco and drove to my next hotel in Mezzolombardo. So yes, I could start my next, and last, day of the autumn trip in Mezzocorona. The start of what promised to be a beautiful day was good: Captrain, with 2 recent Italian-built E494 Traxx DC2 loco’s with a gas train towards Mantova.

Benjamin and the mountains

The benjamin of the 1216 series is seen with a Railjet from Bologna to München, against the backdrop of Predicola and Cima Monticello mountains.
The second generation Railjet rake was fortunately still hauled by a Taurus locomotive instead of yet another Vectron.

Camo twins

Next I would be waiting for some more southbound traffic, both freight and passenger. Two white TXL Vectrons kicked off the parade. Both brand-new Vectrons are almost unrecognizable against the backdrop of Tovo Lungo and Giggeregg – Corno Clicher. They are heading a train from Rostock to Verona.

First Alpha Vectron

After lunch I got myself to what seemed to be a rather famous location. At a given moment, we were almost 10 people waiting for the southbound trains in Mezzocorona. The first freight that passed was this intermodal from Köln to Verona, hauled by Lokomotion’s 193 404 and 193 771. First time I got to see an Alpha Trains Vectron for real. Meaning my last visit to the Brenner line was way too long ago.
It was a pleasant wait, but only 1 more freight came out of the mountains before it was time to move.

Lonely yellow bird

One last location before starting the long way home: San Michele all’Adige, just south of Mezzocorona. The rail line makes an S-turn here to cross the river Adige. The green bridge is still visible on the left of the photo.
I saw a lot of interesting trains here, of which this is the last one.  I was already past the time I set myself to depart, but I think this yellow ex-Dispolok locomotive was well worth the wait. We see 189 902 and Beacon sister 189 909 haul train 43823 from Bremen to Verona.

One for the road

I really had to leave for home now, but with 2 freights still expected and the sun still being out, I had to be flexible. I drove north a little bit already, winning 20 or so minutes, and got rewarded by 2 more freights and 2 passenger trains. Here’s the 1st freight. Interesting setup of ladders down the road, too!
